National Verifier is a central application system introduced by the Lifeline. It is authorized to decide whether a consumer is eligible for the Lifeline program or not. What is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a program by FCC that enables low income families to get communication services in affordable services through government subsidies.

What is Lifeline Program?

The Lifeline program is designed for giving discounts on monthly telephone services, internet and broadband, or voice bundle packages.  The program is there to make sure that low income families get latest communication facilities so they don’t lag behind from the rest of the world.

The monthly discount for eligible consumer is $9.25, and up to $34.25 is for tribal lands subscribers.  You cannot get a discount on wireline and wireless at the same time.

What is a National Verifier ID?

A National Verifier ID the identification number you use to subscribe to lifeline programs. You can use it on the portal and other places you are required to identify yourself for a procedure.

What is Affordable Connectivity Program?

ACP was a US government sponsored program which was introduced in the early breakout days of Covid 19 by the FCC. Its aim was to provide affordable broadband services to low income families at reasonable prices. The program is currently halted due to no further funding approval from Congress.

Can I have Lifeline and ACP?

Yes if you have a lifeline phone, you can also apply for ACP for unlimited talk, texting and data. So if you are eligible for Lifeline, you are also eligible for ACP, however you must apply separately for both. Both work as separate entities.

Is Lifeline and ACP the Same?

No they are not the same, the package is similar but they are run as separate programs. ACP was fundamentally initiated during Covid-19 while Lifeline is there since 1985.

How to Apply for Affordable Connectivity Program?

Follow below steps to apply for ACP:

  1. Go the link in your browser: https://www.affordableconnectivity.gov/
  2. Click on the APPLY NOW button
  3. Click on NEXT to start your application
  4. Fill the form and enter your home address
  5. Now enter email and phone number
  6. From 2 check option, choose the social security number option or tribal ID option
  7. Now attach a copy of your identification
  8. Now enter your basic information
  9. Select a plan for yourself and click on apply

How to Get Free Phone Service?

If you are participating in certain government programs like Medicaid, SNAP, SSI you may be eligible for a free phone though the lifeline program. If you don’t have these programs you can still qualify if your income is 135%  less than the government poverty guideline.

How To Get an Obama Phone?

The Obama phone is another name given to Lifeline program. You can get it as discussed in above sections by applying to it and if you are eligible.
